5 Kartavyas of Paryushan - WHAT I CAN DO ?

Jai Girnarji Jai Antrikshji – 5 Kartavyas of Paryushan - WHAT I CAN DO?

Pranam Punyashali,

Paryushan Parva for many of us starts from September 12.

There are 5 Kartavyas that a Shravak needs to follow during these 8 days of Paryushan.

1.   Amari Pravartan (Have others Practice Jeevdaya):

Jeevdaya (Amari)’ is a synonym of ‘Jain’ as this Kartavya is what he practices 24/7 and 365 days a year. However, this Kartavya becomes more important during the auspicious days of Paryushan.

What can I do?
-     Avoid – Eating any food outside, Green vegetables, Washing Clothes, Bath with soaps and shampoos, Grinding of grains, Painting of house or other property and similar activities which involves jeev hinsa.
-     Less use of - Water (bathing and other use), Electricity, Traveling.

Moreover during Paryushan days, Jains are expected to ensure and make arrangements that others also practice Jeevdaya…..King Akbar ensured that No Jeevs are killed in his entire kingdom for 6 months.

What can I do?
-     Ensure that least usage of water is made in household work by servants, slaughters house are closed, postpone activities involving jeev hinsa (like cleaning / painting etc) at home/office.

2.   Sadharmik Vatsalya:

Sadharmik includes any one who observes Jainisim. Their worship with honour is called Sadharmik Bhakti.

What can I do?
-     Have some Sadharmik come to your house for lunch / dinner
-     Contribute funds towards Sadharmik Bhakti in your Sangh / other organization

3.   Kshamapana (Ask for forgiveness):

Kshamapana means seeking and giving forgiveness. Kalpasutra states that One who forgives is achiever and rests are non-achiever.”

What can I do?
-     Seek forgiveness from ALL
-     Given forgiveness whole heartedly to all. No deceit, no hypocrisy, simple ness only.

4.   Atham Tap - Fasting for 3 days

What can I do?
-     Best - Fast for 3 continuous days
-     Optional – Fast for 3 separate days or do 6 Ambel's or 12 Ekashana’s or 24 Beshna’s.

5.   Chaitya Paripati – Going to Derasers

Chaitya Paripati means to visit several Jinalayas. One should do this in a manner which does Shashan Prabhavna …In the temples you visit, you should leave pooja samagris like dhoop sticks, sandalwood, varakh (silver / gold)….This will help you in softening yourself and help you in moving ahead in religion.

What can I do?
-     Go to several Derasers (at least 5) in a group.

If you find this useful, please forward this to others and thereby be instrumental in fulfilling their Paryushan Kartavyas.

Wish you a very Happy and Aradhnamay Paryushan!!!

Michami Dukadam !!!!
